Respect is one of our school values. (IF you do not remember, it's stated very clearly in your school journal page 4 & 6) This week is Respect Week. As part of our HDP lesson this week (YES... I didn't manage to cover HDP again!!!), you are to write a short paragraph of between 50 to 100 words on:
WHAT RESPECT MEANS TO ME (meaning you yourself duh.)
*Wow, some of you have very good points on what respect means to you! I hope that through this activity, you are reminded again of the value of RESPECT. Respect others like how you want to be respected- this is what I wish for all of you in 6 Faith!
To end this, I leave you with 3 of my favourite reflections done by you guys:

Chelsea: Respect is.........- Greeting teachers and bowing to them as a show of respect .- Paying attention to person talking(teacher) and not talking away .- Respect the decision of others .Respect is all about to listen what the other person has to say , and listening to it real heartily . People might sometimes think respect is just about bowing to teachers and all , but what's the point . If I bowed to you and said "I think your idea is a total no-no and it should be corrected by someone more capable than you", it would be disrespect . Disclaimer : Respect is NOT about bowing to others . Other ways of respecting others are : Correct them if they made a mistake , but not shouting at them and calling them dumb . Hand in assignments on time , do not let your teachers scream and shout all over the school . This would only end up embarassing you . Following the rules of any , if available . Remember , if your do not respect others first , how are the others going to be able to respect you ...
Koko: Respect means a lot of different things. On a practical level it seems to include taking someone's feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences into consideration. We might also say it means taking all of these seriously and giving them worth and value. In fact, giving someone respect seems similar to valuing them and their thoughts, feelings, etc. It also seems to include acknowledging them, listening to them, being truthful with them, and accepting their individuality and idiosyncrasies.Respect can be shown through behavior and it can also be felt. We can act in ways which are considered respectful, yet we can also feel respect for someone and feel respected by someone. Because it is possible to act in ways that do not reflect how we really feel, the feeling of respect is more important than the behavior without the feeling. When the feeling is there, the behavior will naturally follow.
Gerald: Respect is the root of conversaion, both in talk and our mind.Always bear respect, and the opposition will be fine.Respect is something ,hard to understand. But although that, it is something we can mend.If we have trouble, with other people;always remember respect,it will bring convenience back.Invisible as always, neither white nor black;respect is always in my eyes, and that is a fact.
As for the rest of you, I have published your comments (except some irrelevant ones and I will talk to these people when we get back to school on Monday). Take a look! :)

Respect, to me is a very important word. It describes about how you behave. Behaving badly in front of a teacher is one example. It would disrupt the class. Not making noise but not paying even the slightest attention is also one of the examples. Its just like you don't even bother who is standing there talking. And that is what "Respect" means to me.
Respect means that I must respect my elders, teachers, friends and all the others including my family.I must not be rude and scold anybody whenever I want to and respect the others opinions and suggestions. I do not interrupt them when they are giving their own opinions. Overall, respect is a must for everybody and we can't be rude.
Respect means to me that we acknowledge the rights of others. We should not interrupt or talk to our friends when someone is talking. We should understand other people's points of view and show consideration for their feelings. We should treat others fairly - that is the way you want them to treat us.
Respect to me means :
when someone is talking, you must listen
to the person even you are not interested
in it or not.
When a teacher walk past you,and you
bow at the teacher, its also a respect.
When you are eating with other people,
wait till they say you can start eating, then
you eat.......
Okay...Im out off idea....bye!!!!
WHAT RESPECT MEANS TO ME.
Respect means...
We have to respect our elders; do not talk back to them. When the teacher is talking we do not talk, listen attentively to the teacher who is talking. If a classmate or schoolmate receives a prize or is being congratulated, we should clap for them. Greet and bow to teacher as we walk by them. We have to accept people of other races, learn and accept their beliefs, religions and customs. We take care of the school property or somebody else’s property. Do not touch other person’s property without permission. Look at the teacher when she is talking. Understand the rights of others, do not force them to do something. Show consideration for other people’s feelings. Greet the teachers when we see them. Respect good behavior and do not scold vulgar language at other people.
This is what respect means to me ;DD
It means to me that we should listen while someone is talking instead of talking with someone sitting beside me. When I listen, it is also being polite to the person who is talking. By keeping quiet and listening, I can also help by not making the person who is talking to raise his voice. So he will not lose his voice.
To me RESPECT means greeting someone, show kindness towards others, obey laws/regulations,do not interrupt people especially when they are explaining things and to listen to what people have to say and give them feedback. Also vandalism to tables, chairs, walls and others. And also to show consideration for other people's feelings.

What Respect means to me
To me, respect is how you respect someone(It could be anyone!). If you do, you might want to follow his/her good points and try to help her as much as you can.
Respect also means that you respect your elders like your parents, guardians, teachers, etc and even domestic helpers. It also means that you have to respect your friends too, no matter how old they are.
Stealing, Bullying, Fighting, etc are not ways of respect. Sometimes, peeking into someone's diary, Journal or Private Books. It does not show respect too as you interrupt someone's privarcy.
Respect is something everyone should have. Without it, we would have inconsiderate people everywhere. Fights break out everyday and nobody cleans your bed daily, so fleas and other blood-sucking insects can crawl in and suck your blood or bite you. Everyone loves a nice and clean bed, right?
Hence, respect is very important to every one.

Respect means that i should greet and bow to my teachers and all my elders.Respect also means to show kindness, be courteous, be polite and be helpful to others, even classmates and siblings. We should always care for others. We should also take good care of our properties and not vandalise them instead.Furthermore, we should treat others well and also give a thought for their feelings.
respect means
treat everybody with civility, courtesy and dignity
not to be rude
taking care of property
treat people like u want them 2 treat u
do not give nickname 2 people
understand people's point of view and show consideration 2 their feelings
Obey rules n laws
Exhibit good behaviour
Respest means listen to what the elder people says. When the elders or someone are talking keep quiet. When talking we must understand other people's points of view and show consideration for their feelings and not hurt them. During flag rising ceremony, we must not move around and stand in attention.we must not vandalise the property of others and also show good behaviour. Obeying rules and laws are also showing respect. Lastly, we must be polite to everyone.
I am Fabriana Phuan An Ting. I think respect means listening to the teacher when she or he is teaching and do not interrupt or distrct the class. Hand up work on time, put up your hand to ask a question and stand up when the teacher ask you a question and answer in the courteous way. These are what respect means to me.

What Respect means to Me
To me, Respect means polite behavior towards somebody or something and to admire it. Example: To respect someone means you do not say anything bad behind his or her back and not being naughty towards him or her. If more people respect each other, it will make the world a better place.
Respect means respecting myself my family and friends.I respect myself by not cheating on myself. Like cheating in test ,stealing etc.I respect my friends by helping them in various ways to learn more for myself.I respect my family by following instructions that they give and do not talk back at them.
Respect is the root of conversaion,
both in talk and our mind.
Always bear respect,
and the opposition will be fine.
Respect is something ,
hard to understand.
But although that,
it is something we can mend.
If we have trouble,
with other people;
always remember respect,
it will bring convenience back.
Invisible as always,
neither white nor black;
respect is always in my eyes,
and that is a fact.
Respect is about respecting someone whom u care about.E.g.I respect the elderlys,my friends and teachers by not insulting them.
I could also do those things to them but it is a choice of whether to do it or not. So,it is really up to you.
WHAT RESPECT MEANS TO ME .

It means acknowledge the rights of others, understand other people's points of view and show consideration for their feelings. It also means reach out to people of all races, learn and accept their belifs ,religons and customs. And it also means recognize the value of people ,property and the environment, greet my elders and obey rules and laws.

Respect means , to bow to teachers whenever they walk past you, to listen to other people's comment and respect it; meaning not talking while they are talking.
it also means not to take other people's things without their permission as this is obviously invading their privacy. it also means that we should not tease people in any way.
Respect is important in our daily lives. if we don't respect someone. they might hurt us in any way. We should respect everyone. Even our enemies or even cleaners. We also can't disrespect people from other countries. This is how wars start, when someone disrespects the other, and the other wants revenge. So, respect everyone you see!
Respect mean that everyone should greet the person when he or she sees someone familiar. He should also not interupt and tease them so as to not hurt them.If we don't respect others,we will have no friends and will be lonely.THis is a "retribution".The most important thing still,is to be nice with other people.
Respect has great importance in everyday life. As children we are taught (one hopes) to respect our parents, teachers, and elders, school rules and traffic laws, family and cultural traditions, other people's feelings and rights, our country's flag and leaders, the truth and people's differing opinions. And we come to value respect for such things; when we're older, we may shake our heads (or fists) at people who seem not to have learned to respect them. We develop great respect for people we consider exemplary and lose respect for those we discover to be clay-footed, and so we may try to respect only those who are truly worthy of our respect. We may also come to believe that, at some level, all people are worthy of respect. We may learn that jobs and relationships become unbearable if we receive no respect in them; in certain social milieus we may learn the price of disrespect if we violate the street law: “Diss me, and you die.” Calls to respect this or that are increasingly part of public life: environmentalists exhort us to respect nature, foes of abortion and capital punishment insist on respect for human life, members of racial and ethnic minorities and those discriminated against because of their gender, sexual orientation, age, religious beliefs, or economic status demand respect both as social and moral equals and for their cultural differences. And it is widely acknowledged that public debates about such demands should take place under terms of mutual respect. We may learn both that our lives together go better when we respect the things that deserve to be respected and that we should respect some things independently of considerations of how our lives would go.
Respect means a lot of different things. I might say it means understanding other people’s point of view and show consideration for their feelings. In fact, giving someone respect seems similar to valuing them and their thoughts, feelings, etc. It also seems to include recognizing the value of people, property and the environment. Respect can be exhibit through good behavior like courteous, polite, etc. We can act in ways which are considered respectful, yet we can also reach out of all races, learn and accept their beliefs, religions and customs.
Respect means: to greet and bow to your elders or teachers. It does not mean vandalising school properties, insulating classmates or friends. It also mean not to tease or mock at others.Do not argue with teachers, thus talking back to them.It also means not to disrupt class.Respect is a very important value in life. So,if you do not respect others, they will not respect you either.
Respect is one of the values in our school which everyone didn't show it to the teachers that is in our school. Respect mean a whole world to me. Imagine, without respect in this world, what will it be like?? Surly you would not want to stay there. Simple thing like- do not interrupt when somebody is talking-is just a simple respect which i am sure everyone here could do it.
Respect can use in everywhere, not only in school. Respect is only use when you know or care for the person, family, classmates, teachers …… . Some examples of respect are: greeting your teachers, helping your friends with their homework and giving presents to your cousin when it is his or her birthday. When you call someone nickname, it is disrespectful. If you want to be respectful, you must also respect someone. You too, do not like people to call you nickname. Respect is important because it shows you what kind of character are you. As long as you respect your friends, they will still be your friends. Respect will still stay in your entire life. When you get older and start working, if your boss calls you to meet him, and you go into his office, sit down without greeting your boss. He may sack you right away. So, remember, respect is important.
